AM: North side - 7.75 miles, averaged 8:16

PM: 18th street to 9th back to 18th back and home via Jefferson High - 10  miles, averaged 6:58

I was trying to do a steady state run of 6-8 miles, maybe 10, but I got a bit fast because I have been running at marathon pace and LT or faster and don't have a good sense of the 6:45-6:30 range currently. Ended up being within McMillan range still I guess.  First mile 7:27, then 5.25 tempo in 34:38: 6:42, 6:29, 6:31, 6:33, 6:44, 1:38 (6:28 pace), averaged 6:35.75. Then ran home at a decent pace (7:15-7:30ish) with .12 toward the end at 5:30.

Nice tempo. Seems like every running guru has a different definition of "steady state." Whatever it was, it looks like you hit your target nicely.

I saw you got some Type A's. Definitely my favorite shoe. A marathon is doable (I've done 3 in them). Obviously you gotta test em in long runs, which you know, but they are definitely fast shoes.

How does Hadley (?) define it? It seems good for someone of my ability. For faster runners well under 3:00 hours it wouldn't make sense because the paces are so close. I was trying to get 2:57-3:00 pace so I could make 3:05 easy and sub-3:00 very doable on an aided course. The second mile was obviously too fast.

I really like the A5s. I love my Newton flats, but I could see giving these a shot. The Fastwitch are nice too, but not lighter than my heavier Newtons so there's no sense for me to use them as a marathon shoe. Definitionally I'm a bit heavy for flats, but that wouldn't stop me. I can't run any shorter races in my trainers. Too much shoe!

Hadley uses the term for "5% to 10% slower than the fast end of the Aerobic Threshold pace range" and has you do 15-20 miles at that pace. go figure...

I think the fastwitch seem like bricks next to the A5, I just couldn't bring myself to run a race in them. I think I read even Saucony say something like "elite runners could even consider running a half marathon in the A5's" after I'd just run a full. So maybe not advised, but hell, I've seen people run a marathon in Vibrams before. I think it's all about getting used to the shoe, but who knows...

Nice run Jason. Good mix of paces and decent mileage for a Monday.
