Didn't plan this one, but I guess sometimes whatever runs can produce some interesting results. South Side - 11.5 miles, averaged 6:38

I have no idea what to call this run other than a "block tempo" or "marathon paced fatigue tempo." Started one mile easy-steady (7:22), then 6-mile LT progressive tempo (6:39, 6:31, 6:15, 6:15, 6:07, 6:05), then coasted into 4-mile MP tempo (7:07, 6:51, 6:52, 6:38 w/ a quarter mile of downhill on the last one), then .5 miles at 7:12

At mile 10 I was 4-5 seconds average from my half PR. I think McMillan is conservative for my half marathon pace (about 6:25) at this point.

LT tempo average 6:18.5

MP tempo average 6:52

Man, I think you just had ANOTHER breakthrough. You basically ran 6 miles at, what, about 10 sec/mile slower than your last 10k (an entire week ago) in a training run. You're getting faster every week! Great run.

I fully expected to take a nap, wake up, and find myself at a craps table, still in Vegas. I think my glute not firing kept me from hitting some faster splits in the 10k, but I definitely couldn't have run much harder that day (my recovery was really fast, so I think I could have run harder if my body had cooperated during the race). Today, I tied my 10-mile split from my PR half marathon. Just came together I guess. One of those run days that feels quasi-mystical.

I have found that some of my best workouts are totally unplanned. Sometimes I have no idea what I'm going to so as I'm setting out and I end up with some of my best efforts.

It's that chiseled jaw and those dashing good looks: helps you move with more confidence.

Not so sure about the effiminate hand-on-hip: takes away some of your quasi manliness - could slow you down:)

It pulls my extra-hairy legs into the perfect position to make my calf vein bulge (not picture above).
