9.5 miles, no watch

Narrowly avoided a German Shepard attack. I got partially into the woods and grabbed some bush cover and put a ditch in between us. I had thought as I was approaching I should have grab a defense weapon. It started jumping up and down and I yelled for help. The owner came and the dog quickly left.

Glad you are safe! I had a dog charge at Moxie and me this morning but nothing like your experience. Did the owner even hint at being sorry? Most often guys like that don't and think it is your fault for antogonizing their dog by running by!

Close call Jason, luckily most people around here are pretty good about keeping their dogs in check. But I too have run into the neighbor's German Shepherd once when he got out. Pretty intimidating animal.. Safe to say I stopped, went way to the other side of the road and ever so casually walked away:)

Yikes. Never fun when that happens. Back in Oklahoma (out in the sticks) it happened all the time, but most of the dogs retreated when I went alpha male on them. Never ran into a German shepherd though!

Geez. I've only had little ones chase me, and they get my heart pumping. Glad you're alright. I've often thought about the mace thing.

The owner was pretty unapologetic but I think he was almost as scared as I was. I usual run my mouth a bit but I was a bit in shock. In lafayette, IN the owners were never around. In Maine they can usually reel them in pretty quickly. In Philadelphia the dogs tip their hats and bark, "Good morning, sir!" Extremely well trained.

I moved to the other side of the road but I should have walked to let him know I wasn't a threat.

Joe: not sure how this compares to Oklahoma but it's the sticks. ~2300 people. Not a single traffic light. No chains. No grocery store. We do have a large general store which I guess is technically a grocery store. Look up Hussey's General store. The sign is famous.

Very similar! In Elgin we had ~2500 people, no stoplights, small grocery store and two dollar stores. Maybe the 3 stores combined to equal Hussey's, though none of them sold guns. Other than the loose dogs, I loved running in the middle of nowhere.
