AM: A Take-that!-last-Thursday-failed-workout! AEROBIC BUILDER. 13 miles, averaged 6:57 w/ 8-mile AT tempo in 51:12 (6:24 average): 6:29, 6:31, 6:27, 6:28, 6:25, 6:22, 6:16, 6:14. 3 up and 2 down.

More of a fast finish than a progression. I was working a bit, but that's okay. I was flinging fluids a bit (usually a sign I am not at all relaxed), so as long as the blog style police weren't in the bushes I think I'll be okay. Did a few loops on the .5 mile portion then headed out for the longer loop, but the road was closed, so I had to get creative.

PM: Rest Haven - 4 miles, averaged 8:13

Take that, indeed.

Yep, that's more like it - nice tempo Jason!

Nice workout Jason - workouts like that are very key in my opinion, both physically and mentally.

Sweet! Definitely good mentally I'm sure.

Thanks, all. I'm thinking of these as Boston Builders as much as for getting in shape for the last few fall races. Usually I do MP tempos in a marathon buildup, take a break, and build back up in the next one. But since I don't have another marathon until April I am quite content to throw these in every ~2 weeks between 6:20-6:35 and let the pace drop as it may in the next few months.

From Jake K on Wed, Oct 09, 2013 at 16:55:24 from 67.177.11.154

You can't go wrong with throwing these in every other week. Lot of benefits from doing them consistently, even if you aren't targeting a marathon in the short-term.

Certain aspects of training (like VO2 intervals) can be draining if you do it all the time, but aerobic tempo runs don't really fall into that category.
