AM: HANSON BROTHERS' WORKOUT (Jason's version): 4 x 2 miles @ HMGP w/ 3:00-3:20 recoveries + 200m directly following 4th set ("a metric half").  Nice little confidence boost this morning. I made this one slightly harder than when I did it in April and ran ~7 seconds faster overall with shorter recoveries (by just a touch) but also faster paced (about as honest as I can make them).

Warmed up 3.5 w/ .5 @MP and just two light strides to be about 10-15 seconds below goal pace. First set: 12:17 (6:10, 6:07); Second set: 12:15 (6:11, 6:04), Third set: 12:13 (6:10, 6:03); Fourth set: 12:07 (6:06, 6:01), into 200m @ 5:05 pace (36.6 seconds). Just over 6:06 average.

I ran the recoveries faster than I usually do (8:10-8:18, while I usually am satisfied with 9-9:30)

4 mile cool down.

Last April I ran 6:13 averaged and ran 6:08 on my watch (6:13 officially for the long course). I know with a sensible start I am in sub-1:20 shape. I'm not satisfied with just squeaking under that, however. I ran at least 3 of these miles with a hitch in my left leg that sometimes happens when my glute won't fire, so I lost valuable seconds there. So, next weekend: sensible start and see if I can cut into the 1:18-range in the final 3-5 miles.

PM: 4 miles, averaged 8:09

Wow that's a tough workout! You have made a lot of progress since April and it seems like you have a good shot at running in the 1:18s.

Nice work Jason.

Hey, I think I'm coming to Monumental (for the 1/2).

Thanks, Andrea. It is tough, but not that bad (I'm definitely a half guy). I think because it's a twice a year workout. If it were weekly it would hurt a lot, but I think I am going to try to get some 2 mile sessions (3 x 2) at LT before November when I do this again ~8-10 day from the Monumental. The workout is by far more impressive when done for someone who runs the half @ LT, but it's certainly not easy for someone running a few seconds above either (the Hanson boys do .5 recoveries. I do ~.35-.4 to make sure the effort is sufficiently difficult).

It would be fantastic to have you there, Jake. Paul is planning to run the full as I think you are aware. The race director has been excellent about making this the premier Indianapolis marathon and half over the last few years. You'll feel comfortable on a very flat course @ 700 feet of elevation. I'll be bumping up against the elite rope, squeezed in front of as many 3:05 marathoners as I can so I don't run them over!

That's a good "last chance" tune up workout. Do it about 10 days out. That's where I've had the most success w/ something like that.

I talked to the RD tonight... Indy is gonna be the ticket.

Last April i did a 15k, the the Hansons, the Carmel half (saturday/saturday/saturday over three weeks). My legs were tight for the workout and the race. I'm guessing I could have been a touch faster. (7 days wasn't quite enough). Lots of quality this week. a legitimate cutback this upcoming week is in order for sure.

Fantastic about the race. Your ability coupled with a flat course at sea level will be ntriguing. You can see the results from last year, but again, optimal racing weather in my book and ridiculously flat for someone used to significant elevation change.

Lookin' good Jason.
