TRACK WORKOUT

4 x 1600 w/ 90 seconds standing rest. 5k Indicator/Blowup Workout

Made the mistake of falling back to sleep for another hour or so. It didn't get too windy until the end. Felt pretty decent on the first 2-3 and didn't feel like I was slowing down but I was.

5:21.9, 5:24.4, 5:28.5, 5:37.1

HR 177, 178, 178, 180

Just under 5:28 average for 1600 even with the blown repeat. So 5:30 average. I think I can beat that in the race a week from tomorrow. I need to.

Wind gusts chewed me up on the last repeat but I doubt it would have been much faster than 5:32-5:33 if I hadn't more or less bagged it. Oh well. It's an extremely hard workout for a slow twitcher. I wanted to bail pretty bad on that last one.

About .5-1 second faster than last fall's iteration of the workout but I think I am in a better position to hold pace given that I am not late into marathon training like I was then.

Onward and upward.

PM: 4 mile shakeout. HR 129.

Good work man. Going for sub 17 next weekend?

From Jason D on Fri, Mar 18, 2016 at 21:39:49 from 68.80.27.222

Good work? You are supposed to indulge my self-pity for recklessly splitting!

I was hoping to be closer to sub-16:45 but I have to remember that 1) I suck at 5ks 2) 23 second PRs are substantial in the 5k.

I believe I am in shape to cross the threshold. It's been a goal for a while even though I haven't quite understood what it takes to run 5:25-5:27 pace until now: more substantial intervals in the 5:10-5:25 range with 1200-1600 meters around the faster end of goal pace.

Got to do it now. July in Philadelphia is not a good time to set PRs as I learned last year :-)

I'm in no position to be criticizing the pacing on workouts! :-)

It seems like you gave this a good effort - a little blowup is alright if you hung in there. Give the legs a little rest and run confident... 16:something is there for you.

Yeah I bet you can run a 5k faster than a windy 4x1.

From Jason D on Sat, Mar 19, 2016 at 20:27:38 from 68.80.27.222

My watch race predictor says 16:47. I get to just add that to the PR board, right?

It also has me at 2:40 in the marathon (not even close) and 1:17:5X, which I better be faster than in 3 weeks!

Part of the issue is that of the 4 times I have run this workout only one time have a run a 5k after it, which was last fall. Pace was within a second I think.
