Beautiful day. 81 degrees and sunny. Was feeling tired and sluggish. Ran pretty slow to get going, which was fine. Form feels quirky. Decided to run the last mile at marathon goal pace, and although it was warm I was trying to sense the pace and hit a certain number even though I knew I would be working a bit harder with the heat. The bad news is the effort was pretty high. The good news is I was 30 seconds off target. The last mile split was 6:08. Whoops. Working the wrong system, but it's too close to the race to have much effect. I assumed that the high effort was more due to heat than pace. I guess I will wear my watch that is set up to read current and average pace for the race.

6.25 miles, averaged 7:39

The weather looks cooler than it did several days ago. I can't complain about this:

Good forecast! And if the effort feels like, that was b/c it was much closer to 10K pace than marathon pace. Good luck this weekend!

Thanks, Jake. It was right at my half pace from 3 weeks ago. Definitely not marathon pace or effort! Yet! I just figured I was running about 6:35-6:40 and that the heat was getting to me. I've never run a mile under 6:15 unless I was doing repeats or racing so it was a bit weird. I had to double check the time. Better than seeing a 7:02 I guess :) I think 6:35 pace is doable this weekend, especially aided and especially given the weather.

Its shows you are fit and ready to roll. Just start out relaxed...

Weather couldn't be better. Looking like a big weekend for you!

Jake: I guess I will have to do speedwork this summer after rebuilding my base. I thought I was going to get away with old man jogging

Rob: Thanks. I think I am due for a good marathon. I have a serious crowd to impress, including the family dog. Much is at stake here. Well, actually, 20ish weeks of training are at stake, but who's counting?

Matt: I was happy when I saw low 45 and high of 65. I tend to luck out with race whether, which probably means I need to race more and toughen up!3

Great weather! In 6 marathons I have not had a day that nice.

I think you're ready...just don't run any 6:08's!

From Jason D on Thu, May 16, 2013 at 08:50:48 from 24.1.80.94

You need to start running in the northern Maine woods in May! I'm ready. No 6:08s, but hopefully plenty of 6:28s on the downhills and 6:38s on the flats.
