Day off.

We drove to Ohio yesterday to see some of Megan's friends and saw her family today. I could have got a run in, but it wasn't ideal. This ends 34 days on, which is my most consistent streak since we have been in Michigan. Of course I am grumpy and even more anxious than typical Sunday evenings, but even though I haven't been going full speed ahead and mileage is relatively low it's a good time to rest.

Evening: 8 miles, averaged 8:06

Cold, rainy, windy, dark. Saw a few deer and a muskrat.

Tired. Took a nap after getting home from campus and I fell asleep after dinner in the chair. Did not sleep well Saturday night and it wrecked me. I've always been a person who needs solid sleep. Headed to bed early.

13 x 90" On/Off

30' up/20' down

First two at half marathon effort (maybe a touch fast), three and four at 10k effort (again a touch faster), and the final nine at 5k effort. The first 5k rep was a bit hot as I realized on the recovery. Backed off a bit and then worked my way back down. Some of the reps were decently fast (5:45-5:25). If I had to run a 5k right now, breaking 18 would likely prove difficult. The effort felt right though and it is hard to judge effort for only 90' Last three reps were getting tough, but I focused and ran the last three fairly quick.

Cold day out. Gloves and a hat even though it was 38 degrees. The damp air had it feeling like Philadelpha.

Lunch: 8.3 miles, averaged 7:50

Started to feel fitter and stronger. My legs are getting itchy to run fast and increase mileage.

Light rain but warmer. Lots of deer. A small buck that I kind of wanted to wrestle and have for lunch. A doe and two young 'nes.

PM: 8.4 miles, averaged 7:45

25' easy, 20' moderate to uptempo progression, 20' steady easy-ish

Took off too fast for the 20' (even though I felt fine) as I felt like I was doing a workout rather than just a slightly better quality maintenance run. The 20' portion was supposed to be easy to moderate. I think I can find a better rhythm doing the whole first 45' or so progressively and work off miles, which given the 1-mile loop always helps me better establish a rhythm.

Late: AIS hamstring, Mrtyl routine, and push-ups

PM: 8.5 miles.

It started to rain after I got up from a nap, which seems to happen all the time lately. Started running and saw some lightning flashes. Then I saw some bolts and it was far too close. Ran home. Exactly a mile. Went to the complex gym, which is serviceable if no one is around. I did another hour there.
